Spiritual Direction
While the title can be misleading, I am not, in fact, going to give you much direction. Rather, I will help you notice how God – who is the true Spiritual Director – may be leading you. Our time is dedicated to you and your story. Our session will have a beginning, middle and end. Both the beginning and ending will be marked in a sacred way of your choosing. Some ideas include: a time of silence, lighting a candle, listening to a prayerful song, reading a scripture aloud, praying, or another idea you may have. The middle (and longest) part of our time together is dedicated to you sharing a story from your life or simply what has been on your mind/heart. God is present in every area of our lives – the suffering and the celebrating, the ordinary and the magnificent. So, feel free to share openly about any area of life that seems relevant for you. Your story and your life are sacred.
A Spiritual Director is not a replacement for counseling, psychotherapy, or pastoral care but can greatly compliment those helping professions. Out of professional courtesy, please let me know if you are meeting with a helping professional. If something arises that is outside the scope of my training as a Spiritual Director, I may suggest the possibility of seeking out such professionals. I am available to support you as you discern and live out your own faith and values system and your journey with God; my role, in our individual sessions, is not to teach or preach, but to listen to and hold your story. Though we discuss matters of faith, our times together are not a theology course. Our time is meant for you to share, and for us, together, to bear witness to what is real, true, and important. For Divinity is indeed present in your story.
the art of holy listening & sacred presence
What is Spiritual Direction?

"The environment of spiritual direction, then, is affirming and encouraging, but it is also a place of authenticity. In spiritual direction we look at the truth of our present situation and experience."
